The Dehlon police under the Ludhiana district claimed to have arrested two persons who had allegedly robbed an employee of a private company when he was returning home on his motorcycle on the Kalakh-Majri road near here in late hours recently.
The suspects, identified as kabaddi players Amritpal Singh Maddi of Ghungrana village and Harbhajan Singh Bhajna, alias Dhakkan, of Dhulkot, were arrested by police officials, led by Investigating officer Subhash Kataria, from different places on late Sunday evening.
The police also recovered Rs 15,000 in cash and a motorcycle and a sword used in the crime from the suspects today.
As per information provided by Dehlon SHO Ravinder Kumar, the complainant, Gagandeep Singh of Jurahan village, had alleged that the suspects had robbed him of Rs 8,200 in cash and an online transaction of Rs 10,000 from his account was also forcibly done by them when he was returning home on his motorcycle on the night of February 6.
“They stopped me by hitting my motorcycle and snatched Rs 8,200 from my pocket by threatening me with a sword. They also asked me to pay Rs 10,000 through Google Pay,” Gagandeep told the police that he (Gagandeep) managed to pay the asked amount by borrowing rs 5,000 from his cousin online on the fateful night.
It was during routine patrolling late on Sunday evening that the complainant updated the investigating officer Subhash Kataria about the identity of the suspects. later, police personnel, supervised by SHO Ravinder Kumar and the IO , nabbed them from two places late on Sunday night.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the duo had been playing kabaddi for various teams for a long time. They confessed that they had looted the victim as they had to deposit entry fees for some tournaments.
