Twentynine persons from Ludhiana district have tested positive for dengue, taking the number of dengue patients this year to 35.
A sudden spurt in dengue cases has set the alarming bells ringing for the Health Department.
Dr Ramesh Bhagat, District Epidemiologist, said: “With continuous rain in the past few days, water has accumulated at many places. People should make sure water accumulated around their houses is removed, as mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. They should clean flower pots every week.”
Keep in mind
- Report suspected case of dengue to the nearest government dispensary, hospital or Civil Surgeon Office Control Room at 0161-2444193
- Test for dengue is done free of cost at Civil Hospital.
Symptoms
- High fever, severe headaches, joint and muscle pain, vomiting, skin rash and mild bleeding.
Precautions
- Coolers should be dried once a week.
- Mosquito repellent and creams should be used.
- Anti-mosquito spray should be done daily, especially behind curtains and below tables.
- Full-sleeve shirts and pants should be worn.
- Water in flower pots kept inside the houses should be changed weekly.
- Don’t keep uncovered utensils, pots, tyres, etc, on the roof top or in the open.
- Don’t allow fresh water to accumulate near houses.
