5 of snatchers’ gang land in police net

The Basti Jodhewal police have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of five persons near a cluster of jhuggis at the sabzi mandi on Bahadar Ke Road while they were planning to commit another crime.

Those arrested have been identified as Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa, of Vasant Vihar on Noorwala Road; Rakesh Kumar of Grewal Colony, Naresh Kumar of New Basant Vihar, Kulwinder Singh of Kokri Beniwal village in Moga district and Harwinder Singh of Dashmesh Nagar, Muktsar.

Sub-inspector Arshpreet Kaur, who had set up a special naka with a police party of crime branch-1 at Karabara Chowk, had received a tip-off that a group of criminal elements were making plans to loot a petrol pump or factory while sitting inside a white-coloured Hyundai I-10 car (PB-91F-0803).

“The police raided the spot and arrested the suspects,” said the police, adding that the Jassa, leader of the gang, was already facing several cases of loot and snatching.

The police have impounded the vehicle and recovered a pistol of .32 bore, two magazines, 12 cartridges, one sickle and an iron rod from them.
