Six new areas were declared micro-containment zones in Ludhiana today. These are Samrat Colony at Giaspura, New Ashok Nagar at Salem Tabri, New Kartar Nagar, Basant Avenue Phase II at Dugri, Guru Har Krishan Nagar at Giaspura and Ram Nagar near Sangeet Cinema. Earlier, New Janta Nagar, New Model Town and Bhamian Road were declared micro-containment zones.

Now, the number of containment zones in Ludhiana stands at nine. Chowni Mohalla has been removed from the list of containment zones as no new case was reported from there last week. Prem Nagar and area comprising Islam Ganj, Habib Ganj and Sensi Mohalla still are containment zones.

An area is declared micro-containment zone when five or more cases are reported.

16 fresh positive cases in district

Meanwhile, 23 tested positive for Covid-19 today, of which 16 belong to Ludhiana district. The other seven patients are from Samana, Bathinda, Muktsar, Moga, Malerkotla, Himachal Pradesh and Patiala.

Five more persons succumbed to Covid but they all belonged to other districts.

A 50-year-old man from Bathinda died at the DMCH.

6 micro-containment zones

He was on ventilator. A Covid patient from Jalandhar succumbed at SPS Hospital. He was also suffering from a chronic kidney disease.

Two patients from Sangrur district and one from Pathankot breathed their last at the CMCH. Those who tested positive today are from Chandigarh Road, Tajpur Road, Guru Gyan Vihar, Dugri, Model Town and other places.
