Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested a 35-year-old Ludhiana-based businessman while possessing six grams of cocaine. The accused has been identified as Neeraj, a resident of GK Vihar, Ludhiana. He was arrested by a team of the Maloya police from near the Grain Market in Sector 39 here. The police said the accused, who has his own garment business in Ludhiana, was arrested on a tip-off. “The accused has revealed that he purchased the drug from an African in Delhi”, said a police official. A case was registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at the Maloya police station and an investigation has been initiated. The accused has been sent to judicial custody. The UT police had recently arrested an African while possessing 11.08 grams of cocaine. The accused had come from Delhi to deliver the consignment. TNS
Illegal liquor seized
Ludhiana: The city police have booked two peddlers and recovered five cases of illegal liquor from their possession. The accused have been identified as Vishal Jain, a resident of Jain Colony, and Ankush Golu, a resident of the Daba road. Vishal has been arrested while Golu is still at large. The police said acting on tip-off, a raid was conducted at Amardas Colony where the accused were waiting for their clients. A case under the Excise Act has been registered in this regard. TNS
Five booked for assault
Ludhiana: The city police have booked five persons on the charge of attacking the owner of Anmol Studio at New Shimlapuri. The accused have been identified as Vicky, Bittu, Rano, Manjit Singh and Swaranjit Kaur, all residents of New Janta Nagar. Complainant Amritpal Singh of Harkrishan Nagar told the police that on October 6, when he was sitting in his photo studio, the accused barged in and attacked him. The police said the accused were yet to be arrested. TNS
14-year-old goes missing
Ludhiana: A 14-year-old girl has gone missing under mysterious circumstances from her home in Giaspura. Hadish Ansari told the police that his daughter Afsana Khatun had left home on October 12 without informing anyone in the family. He suspected that she could have been kept under wrongful confinement by some unknown persons. The police have launched a manhunt to trace the minor girl. TNS
Two booked for thrashing cop
Ludhaina: Two persons have been booked on the charge of attacking a Head Constable by the PAU police. The accused have been identified as Samarjit Singh and Dilpreet Singh, both residents of Rajguru Nagar. Complainant Parvesh Kumar told the police that on October 13, during a routine naka at Rajpura Chowk, he saw a man being beaten up by some persons. When he intervened to save the victim, two persons assaulted him. The police said the accused were nabbed. TNS
