Ludhiana, September 14

Opposition leaders in the MC House, Ludhiana, have finally raised their voice against the issue of poor quality of material used for constructing roads in the city and asked Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu to order strict action against erring contractors and officials concerned.

Harbhajan Singh Dang, Leader of Opposition, MC House, Ludhiana, along with some other councillors had submitted a memorandum mentioning the name of the roads and areas in this regard.

Notably, the road samples taken from Circular Road (SAN Jain School Road), Textile Colony near RK Road, Baba Mukand Singh Nagar, the road stretch near Mata Rani temple on Daba Road, Bal Singh Nagar, Himmat Singh Nagar, Chandar Nagar, metalled roads in Mohalla Amantran Colony, Ashok Nagar and also samples of interlocking tiles in Sewakpura had failed the strength test.

Dang said, “The failed road samples prove that officials concerned failed to perform their duty in the right manner. The MC should take required action against these officials. The action must be taken against executive engineers, SDOs and JEs concerned for failing to perform their duty.”

Dang further demanded that the contractors, who constructed those roads where samples failed test, should be fined and blacklisted. Meanwhile, he also sought demanded action into issue related to an alleged overestimate that was prepared by the officials for Jagraon Bridge retaining wall. The Opposition councillors have demanded that reconstruction work for Jagraon Bridge should be completed at the earliest. — TNS
