With eleven more patients testing positive for dengue, the number of patients has gone up to 211 in the district this year. Last year, 265 patients tested positive for dengue.

Officials in the Health Department said with the cooperation of the Municipal Corporation and active support of the city people, they will be able to control spread of dengue in the city.

“People should understand their responsibility and act responsibly. An egg takes only seven days to develop into an adult mosquito. We have been time and again requesting people to empty their coolers and flower pots every week on Friday to check breeding of mosquitoes. Only a spoonful of water is required for breeding of mosquitoes, so people should not let water accumulate in and around their houses,” said Civil Surgeon, Dr Parwinder Pal Singh Sidhu.

Dr Ramesh, District Epidemiologist, said whenever dengue larvae were found in some areas by their teams, they send the report to the MC for action in the form of penalty.

“Fines should be issued and regular offenders penalised heavily. People should understand their responsibility because if cleanliness is adopted, then there will be no mosquito,” said Dr Ramesh.

He said the department was regularly distributing awareness pamphlets in the high-risk areas.
