Ex-councillor blames arhtiyas for high prices

A former councillor, Inder Aggarwal, has complained about alleged difference in vegetable rates fixed by the market committee and the ones charged by arthiyas who supply vegetables and fruits to vendors at the ward level. Aggarwal said the wholesale price of green peas was Rs 20-35 per kg and the retail price Rs 45 per kg as per the the market committee on Tuesday. “The arthiya concerned at ward level supplied peas at the rate of Rs 45 per kg to the street vendors today. If the street vendors sell peas at Rs 45 per kg, what will they earn? Actually, the arthiyas are supplying vegetables and fruits at rates higher than the wholesale rates to the street vendors,” he said.
