Ludhiana, October 23

In order to keep a check on Covid-19 during the festive season, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today directed the Health Department to conduct extensive sampling and increase surveillance in the district.

Sharma said the step was being taken to ensure aggressive testing to conquer the virus.

He asked the health officials to ensure sampling at all the entry points of the district, bus stand, railway station, schools, colleges teaching and non-teaching faculty, hospitals, industries, de-addiction centres, gyms, labour colonies and high population density areas.

The DC directed the health officials to organise special testing camps in markets as these were expected to see the maximum footfall in the coming days.

He also asked the shopkeepers to ensure compliance of various guidelines on their premises.

Sharma appealed to the people to extend support to the sampling teams as it would help to keep the curve flattened, besides ensuring safety of the people from the deadly disease.

He said the district the administration was fully prepared to tackle any situation arising from the Covid-19 pandemic and it would leave no stone unturned to serve people.

He also urged people to not fall prey to any kind of rumors and follow the safety protocol that includes wearing masks, maintaining social distancing and washing hands.


Webinar held for young lawyers

Ludhiana: The University Institute of Laws, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, organised a webinar on “Communication skills for young lawyers”. Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh, was the chief guest and Mahesh Jethmalani, Rajya Sabha member and senior advocate of the Supreme Court, was the invited speaker. The event was commenced by Dr Harpreet Kaur Vohra, convener of the event, followed by a formal welcome by Dr Arti Puri, Director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana. In his address, Jethmalani emphasised the importance of communication skills and courtroom behaviour, which can determine the success of a young legal professional. He talked of the importance of effective communication with clients, importance of reading and value of hard work and determination in the profession.
