Ludhiana, December 10
Residents, traders and shopkeepers held a protest against authorities concerned for delay in repair work of Jeevan Nagar – Focal Point road on Monday. The road is in a shambles for the last two years.
The protestors also blocked traffic for some time. Though the road comes under the ambit of the Ludhiana MC but a stretch of this road has to be repaired by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust.
Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu along with some other Congress leaders had inaugurated the repair work at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore a month ago. However, repair work has not commenced at the ground level, alleged agitators.
“The departments concerned are not serious as far as safety of commuters is concerned. Potholes have led to mishaps and condition of road has deteriorated further after monsoon. The road falls under different wards but nobody cares,” rued a protester.
Boota Ram, Trust Engineer of LIT, said they went to spot after protestors blocked the way. He said, “We have already started repair work on a stretch that starts near Veer Palace to Jeevan Nagar Chowk. The remaining stretch up to Focal Point is supposed to be repaired by the civic body.”
