Ludhiana, June 8

Members of YUVA, an NGO, along with some children, staged a protest outside the MC’s Zone D office demanding inquiry into incomplete projects.

Kumar Gaurav of YUVA said they were demanding from the MC to mark an inquiry into projects related to construction of a parking lot and toilets for SCOs, near Keys Hotel, at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Ludhiana.

Even after passing of five years, the contractor failed to construct toilets and a parking lot at the site. He said: “The MC has paid around Rs 59 lakh to the contractor. Why the MC paid this big amount to the contractor when the work was not done?”

“An inquiry should be conducted into the matter and a strict action should be taken against the guilty,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that a proposal recommending action against the contractor is likely to be presented before the F&CC panel on Tuesday. However, no responsibility of any official concerned has been fixed.

Meanwhile, Kumar Gaurav said: “The MC has not revised the lease rates of various properties. These properties were earlier given on lease at very low rates to a private school and two colleges.” He demanded that lease rate of these properties should be increased. He further said the MC should act to take possession of its land that was earlier given to a cinema, near Clock Tower. “The lease of this land has already expired but the MC failed to take the possession of this land,” he said.
