Ludhiana, March 7
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Krishi Vikas Sahakari Samiti Ltd, Gurugram, Haryana, for hybrid seed production of maize PMH 12. This PAU developed hybrid has been notified for release for cultivation in the kharif season in Zone III of India comprising the states Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. The MoA was signed by Dr AS Dhatt, Director of Research, PAU, and Dr Deepa Beniwal, a representative of Krishi Vikas Sahakari Samiti Limited.
Incharge of the maize research team at PAU, Dr Surinder Sandhu, said, “PMH 12 is a uniform, stable and high yielding medium duration single cross hybrid. This hybrid exhibits a mean yield of 71.06 q/ha in Zone III. It is highly responsive to good management conditions and matures in about 90 days.”
Maize breeder Dr Tosh Garg said this hybrid is moderately tolerant to maydis leaf blight, turcicum leaf blight, banded leaf and sheath blight, brown stripe downey mildew and post flowering stalk rot; and has light yellow flint grains.
Dr Dhatt and Dr VS Sohu, head, Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, congratulated the maize team for the hybrid seed production of maize PMH 12.
Dr Khushdeep Dharni, associate director, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, said this MoA will certainly boost the accessibility of PAU developed technology at farmers’ level and enhance their income through high quality seed of this highly productive hybrid.
