Ludhiana: A Hero Splendor motorcycle (PB-10FL-0301) was reported stolen from the parking lot of Bansal Hospital. Sandeep Singh of Pritam Nagar, Haibowal, told the police that he had parked his duly locked two-wheeler in the morning of January 17 in the parking lot but when he came back late in the evening, the bike was missing. A case under section 379 of the IPC has been registered. A Hero Splendor Plus (PB-10DK-7683) was stolen from outside Rose Garden on the evening of January 16. The bike belonged to Saurabh Jain, a resident of Noorwala Road, Basant Vihar. A case under section 379 of the IPC has been registered. TNS

One booked for illegal mining

Ludhiana: The Dehlon police have registered a case under sections 21(1)/21(4) of the Mining Act and 379 of the IPC against Amrik Singh, a resident of Natta village, and his unknown accomplices. Manish Batra, Mining Inspector, said on a report of illegal sand mining, a raid was conducted on a spot near Soni Kanda in Paddi village on Saturday. "On the sight of the team of the Mining Department, one of the suspects fled in one of the tippers while the JCB driver and the other tipper driver also escaped," said the complainant. The police impounded the JCB and one tipper from the spot. TNS

Man held for rash driving

Ludhiana: The Sahnewal police have arrested a school bus driver, Darshan Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Colony, Dhandari Kalan, for rash driving and causing injuries to Rita Devi and her son Sandeep (6), both residents of Makkar Colony, Dhandari Kalan, on Saturday while she was returning home after picking up her son from the school. The driver of the school bus (PB-10HC-6194) took a turn without sounding horn and hit them. Both have been admitted to Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital here. A case has been registered under sections 279/337/338 of the IPC. TNS

One nabbed with illicit liquor

Ludhiana: The police have nabbed Sanjeev Kumar of Gulchaman Gali for sale of smuggled liquor. The police said on a tip-off, the suspect, who was riding a scooter, was stopped at a naka near Tikoni Park. The police recovered 24 bottles of smuggled liquor from him. He has been booked under sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act. TNS
