The administration has cancelled all meetings except in case of an emergency. The decision comes in view of the precautionary measure to check the spread of coronavirus in the district.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ashika Jain said, “We have decided to maintain at least one metre distance between officials, who have to attend meetings to discuss important administrative issue.” Regular meetings were being held with the Health Department, doctors and staff of Civil Hospitals and other departments in the district for taking preventive measures to check the spread of the coronavirus, ADC added.

Regular watch was being kept on shopping malls in the district, the ADC said while adding that it was being ensured that multiplexes inside shopping malls did not operate.

While presiding over a meeting of district health society Assistant Commissioner (General) Yashpal Sharma said, there was no need for panic as the district administration was taking all necessary precautions in view of the reports about coronavirus, which originated in China.

Emphasis should be on ensuring hygienic conditions in the entire district especially in hospitals, medical centres and dispensaries, he added. Fogging must be undertaken in the district, he said.

“An isolation ward has been readied at the Civil Hospital, Mohali. A rapid response team comprising district epidemiologist Dr Harman as nodal officer, medical specialist, paediatrician, chest specialist and support staff is ready with sufficient stock of gloves, masks and medicines to tackle any situation,” he added.

Regarding persons coming to Mohali district from international destinations, the Mohali SDM, Jagdeep Saigal, said, “Such travellers should be quarantined for a period of 14 days even if they are asymptomatic. The healthcare sector occupies priority slot in the scheme of things of the district administration, which is committed to provide top notch facilities to people.”

The Mohali Civil Surgeon, Dr Manjeet Singh, said, “People should not pay heed to rumours. No positive case of coronavirus has been found in the district. Samples collected from suspected cases are being sent to the PGI for testing.”

Kitty parties cancelled

Women in the city have started cancelling kitty parties, which were to be held in various city restaurants. Satwant Kaur, a resident of Phase 7, said, “We have been holding kitty parities every month. After the spread of the coronavirus we have decided not to hold such parties as the state government has advised against mass gathering.” “There are 25 members in my group, who have decided to postpone kitty parties,” she added.
