The anti-terror federal probe agency NIA on Friday said it has filed supplementary chargesheet against alleged ISI Agent Rajakbhai Kumbhar under various sections of IPC and UAPA in an espionage case of Uttar Pradesh.
Officials in the agency said, the NIA filed the chargesheet on Thursday in a special Lucknow Court. Accused Kumbhar is a resident of Mundra district at West Kachchh in Gujarat, they added.
“Accused Kumbhar was arrested on September 30, 2020, and further investigation revealed that he had visited Pakistan twice on legal documents. During his return in the course of second visit, Kumbhar had come in contact with Pakistani ISI operatives Hamid @Asim and he had joined the conspiracy with the co-accused. He transferred funds to Md. Rashid for the information he had provided to the ISI operatives in Pakistan,” a senior NIA official said.
According to the NIA official the case was initially registered at Gomti Nagar Police Station in Lucknow in which accused Md. Rashid, a resident of Chandoli district in Uttar Pradesh was arrested on January 19, 2020 for supplying sensitive information, photos and videos of vital installations of strategic importance to ISI operatives based in Pakistan. Later the NIA had re-registered the case on April 6, 2020 and taken up the investigation, they added.
“Earlier a charge-sheet was filed against accused Md. Rashid on July 16, 2020 under various sections of IPC and UAPA for his role in supplying sensitive, tactical and strategically important information about vital installations and movement of Indian security forces to his ISI handlers based in Pakistan,” the official said.
