In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her cousin brother at Bolar Kalan village in Sanour here today.
The suspect shot the girl, who was a student of Class XII, in her head reportedly over online chatting.
The police said the suspect, who had been identified as Gurinder Singh, fled from the spot after the mishap. Gurinder, who is still at large, was living opposite to the girl’s house. The police have registered a case against the suspect under Section 302 of the IPC. It has been learnt that the weapon used in the incident is illegal.
Ajaypal Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rural), said the girl’s wedding was fixed for October 28. He said: “After an altercation with the girl, Gurinder opened fire at her. The girl died on the spot. The suspect fled the spot. However, he will be nabbed soon.”
The police said though investigations were underway, it came to fore that the girl was attending online classes on her mobile phone.
