Fatehgarh Sahib: Man arrested for duping woman of Rs 28L

Fatehgarh Sahib, July 6

The police have booked and arrested a man for alleged fraud by trying to sell a plot belonging to someone else to a woman and receiving Rs 28 lakh from her. The accused has been identified as Bhagwant Singh, a resident of Damheri village.

ASI Rajendra Singh said Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Chaleri Kalan village, had lodged a complaint claiming Bhagwant had shown her a plot in Amber City at Sirhind town and struck a deal for Rs 28 lakh.

She paid him the entire amount and when she went to take possession of the plot, the real owner came there and showed her the papers. She approached Bhagwant and asked him to return the money, but he refused.

The ASI said the police investigated the matter and found it to be a case of fraud as the plot was in someone else’s name and Bhagwant along with some of his accomplices had duped Harpreet at his behest.

He said the police registered a case against Bhagwant, who moved the High Court for bail, but it was rejected.
