Punjabi University passes Rs 380-cr Budget

Punjabi University Syndicate has passed a budget of Rs 380 crore for the upcoming year. The university meanwhile expects to spend Rs 676.79 crore, thus falling short of income of Rs 291 crore.

The Syndicate meeting postponed twice, including once due to curfew orders in view of Covid-19 was held through circulation of agenda to all the members.

The university expects to fall short of Rs 412.80 crore after the total expected income of Rs 297.43 crore and expenditure of Rs 710.23 crore till March 31 in the current year.

It expects to generate Rs 384.93 crore from all its sources, including Rs 108.91 crore as grant from the state government, Rs 1.28 crore from the Central Government, Rs 2.40 crore from the UGC, Rs 218.29 crore from its own sources, including fees and others and Rs 50 crore as RUSA grant in the upcoming fiscal year.

Of its total expenditure of Rs 676.89 crore, it expects to spend Rs 241.87 crore on salaries and Rs 118.64 crore as contingent expenditure among others.

The university’s bank overdraft coupled with loan amount against periodic deposits has meanwhile climbed up to  Rs 150.70 crore.

Registrar Dr Manjit Singh Nijjar said, “The agenda was circulated among the members of the Syndicate and was passed after their comments were received regarding the same on March 30.”

PUTA contributes one-day salary to CM’s Relief Fund

The Punjabi University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) has decided to contribute one day’s salary of its members in the form of donation to Punjab Chief Minister’s Covid Relief Fund. In a letter to Vice Chancellor Dr BS Ghuman, PUTA members said it is of utmost necessity to supplement the state government’s efforts in its fight against Covid-19. They also appreciated the steps taken by the university to combat the epidemic on the campus, including banning entry of outsiders among others.
