Intimidation won’t work: CM on Pannun

  • A day after Gurpatwant Pannun, designated terrorist by India, issued a veiled threat to him, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said he is the custodian of peace and prosperity of the state and such intimidation tactics cannot stop him from this task.

“AAP in Punjab will be hero as people will make it 13-0. It could even be 14-0 as the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections can also be included in the tally,” said Mann. When mediapersons persisted with their query on the tie-up with the Congress, the Chief Minister said his priority was Punjab’s development, for which he today met the ambassadors of eight countries, including the UK, Australia, Netherlands and Brazil. “For several years, Punjab suffered due to the large-scale migration. But now, reverse migration is happening,” Mann told the media after his meetings with the envoys.

He said his aim was to make Punjab the most developed state in India and that he was sure to succeed as a large number of Punjabis settled abroad had shown interest in returning home and investing in the state.

During the meetings, the CM showcased Punjab as a land of opportunities and invited the envoys to encourage the companies of their respective countries to invest in the state. He said “Punjab had complete communal harmony, peace and amity, which were mainly responsible for development and prosperity in the state”.

“During the day-long meetings, we discussed areas of mutual interest. The investments that will come in will help turn Punjab into a global hub of investment and restore its glory,” said Mann.

During the meeting with UK High Commissioner Alex Ellis, the CM said there was huge scope of mutual growth between Punjab and the UK in agri-food processing sector. In his meeting with Brazil Ambassador Kenneth H da Nobrega, the CM said there was a scope for investment by Brazilian firms in sectors like agri-food processing, IT and chemicals.
