Patiala, July 7

Punjab’s officiating Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the fight against drugs and “gangster culture” was the topmost priority of the state police. The DGP paid a surprise to Patiala today to review the performance of the district police.

While chairing a review meeting at the Police Lines with senior police officers from Patiala, the DGP said the topmost priority of the government, as directed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, was to further strengthen the fight against drugs to make Punjab a drug-free state, besides eliminating gangster culture, maintaining law and order and detection of crime.

Patiala SSP Deepak Pareek, Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, all SPs and DSPs of Patiala were present at the meeting.

The DGP stressed the need for reviving basic policing, which includes keeping a vigil in vulnerable spots and to be always ready to handle any law and order issue.

He directed the police to arrest drug smugglers and break the drug supply chain by gathering information using modern techniques.

The DGP said he would visit every district to review the police working.

Meanwhile, Inspector General Mukhwinder Singh Chhina welcomed the DGP and SSP Deepak Pareek briefed him about the performance of the district police.
