Chandigarh, November 26
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday issued a notice to former MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The two-time MLA was arrested by the central agency on November 11 after which a Mohali court had sent him to judicial custody even as the ED sought further remand.
Available information suggests the ED in its plea has challenged the Mohali court order, which denied it the custody and sent Khaira to judicial custody on November 18. Taking up the matter, Justice Sureshwar Thakur of the High Court also fixed November 30 as the next date of hearing.
Additional Solicitor-General of India SV Raju had on ED’s behalf submitted that the period of 15 days of custody with the petitioner-Directorate was expiring on November 26.
