PRTC workers seek action in ticket scam

A joint action committee of six unions of the PRTC today held a rally at the Bathinda bus stand to demand a probe into the multi-crore ticket scam through stolen machines. The union leaders said if the government did not address the demands in their 17-point memorandum and take action against the officials involved in the ticket machine scandal, PRTC workers would go on a strike on July 21.

Addressing the rally, action committee convener Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal, Ganda Singh, Tarlochan Singh Libra, Sucha Singh, Mahinder Singh Bhatti and some retired workers said it was “surprising” that there was a multi-crore scandal at the Bathinda depot in which the role of an officer was highly questionable but the management had not yet taken any action against the officer. He said the accused officers were still outside the purview of the law. This scam cannot take place without the consent of the higher authorities.

They also warned that if the Transport Department did not pay heed to their demands, there would be more protests in the near future. They demanded that the scam should be investigated by a high-level agency.
