Rajasthan man held with 1-kg opium

SANGRUR: The police arrested a Rajasthan-based smuggler and seized one kg of opium from his possession on Monday night.

The police arrested a Rajasthan-based smuggler and seized one kg of opium from his possession on Monday night. The police have registered a case under Sections 18/61/85 of the NDPS Act.

Mehla police post incharge Sub-Inspector (SI) Hira Singh during patrolling saw a man moving suspiciously on the Maura-Nagra on Monday night. However, the unidentified person after seeing the police tried to flee towards fields after throwing a plastic bag on the roadside. The police nabbed him after a chase.

“During search of the plastic bag, we seized one kg of opium and the man was identified as Gordhan Singh from Jalawar district of Rajasthan. We have procured his one-day police remand and conducting further investigations to identify his customers,” said SI Hira Singh.
