Sacrilege: Top dera officials fail to turn up before SIT in Ludhiana

Probe team to summon duo for third time

Ludhiana, November 26

In the ongoing probe into sacrilege incidents, including theft of a ‘bir’ of Guru Granth Sahib at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari, the chairperson of Dera Sacha Sauda Vipassana Insan and senior vice-chairperson Dr PR Nain today failed to turn up before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Punjab Police probing the cases.

The duo was summoned by the SIT for questioning after their names cropped up during the questioning of the dera chief. SIT head IG (Ludhiana Range) SPS Parmar and other members wanted to verify the extent of role of these persons in the sacrilege cases. When the duo didn’t turn up, the SIT decided to serve a third summon to the suspects.

IG Parmar said during the questioning of Gurmeet Ram Rahim at Rohtak’s Sonaria jail on November 9, the dera head had denied any involvement in the sacrilege incidents, claiming he had no role in the functioning or decision making at the dera.

“Nain has sent his medical to seek exemption from his presence before the SIT while Vipassana has not sent any intimation. We will send fresh summons to the duo. If the duo does not appear before the SIT on the next date, the police have to take the legal action accordingly,” added IG Parmar. — TNS
