Sunil Chhetri strikes late to give India first victory

The Indian men’s football team got its first win of the SAFF Championships after captain Sunil Chhetri once again provided the breakthrough. The veteran striker scored in the 82nd minute to give India a 1-0 victory over Nepal.

Earlier in the day, Maldives defeated Sri Lanka 1-0. India will face Maldives, who climbed to the top of table, in their last pool game. — TNS


Women’s team beats Bahrain 5-0 in friendly

Manama: The Indian women’s football team beat world No. 85 Bahrain 5-0 in an international friendly here today. Pyari Xaxa (19th and 68th minutes), Sangita Basfore (13th), Indumathi 34th and Manisha (69th) scored for world No. 57 India. Pyari was, however, sent off in the 73rd minute. PTI
