A passion for folklore and dance led a young man earn a name on international platform. Satvir Singh, a post graduate from Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology Ludhiana, has taken his college and university training as captain of Bhangra team to win laurels over the years.
“Actually when one is recognised at the home level at various levels it boosts the confidence, exposure is way another level internationally,” quips Satvir. He won gold and bronze at the International Folk Dance Competition, Angolan 2017 held at Wales in The United Kingdom. It was followed by the position of First Runners up at the International Bhangra competition held at the University of Technology IPOH, Malaysia in November 2017. He says “It is just not about winning the title but when I see the enthusiasm and brightness on the faces of the audience which is rewarding in itself.”
He went on to win gold and silver again Llangollen 2018 in the UK and then again recently again in 2019 . Our Bhangra Guru also represented India on a 15 days tour to Fiji and Nauru in January and February 2019 where he was recognised by The President Of Fiji for his contribution.
Working in The Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana for last ten years has helped him to connect with his roots. In 2020, he got Punjab State Youth Achievers Award. There is no stopping this Bhangra Guru who has his sights on enthralling more and more enthusiasts while imparting his skills and inspiring the generation younger to him.
