Amritsar, November 25

More than a week has passed, but the city police have failed to make any breakthrough in a robbery case in which a jeweller was robbed of gold ornaments worth Rs1 crore on November 15.

The victim was returning home from Delhi when armed men looted his bag containing the ornaments and two mobile phones, leaving him critically injured.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said though the investigation was on, there was no breakthrough in the case till now. “We are working on different theories, including the roll of some insiders. Besides, we are examining the call dump details of that time in the area,” he added.

According to the police, the two mobile phones, which were in the bag, got switched off in the Jhabal road area. The police are looking into the involvement of some gangster in the case.

The police are facing difficulties in the absence of non-operational CCTV cameras installed in various chowks in the Civil Lines areas. The police are relying on CCTV cameras installed by individuals. However, the police have failed to identify the robbers, who were seen travelling on a bike near the railway station, due to their poor quality.

The victim, Surinder Kumar Bhola of Kallu Da Akhara, had returned from Delhi in a luxury bus and took his scooter from the parking of the local railway station. He moved towards his residence in the wee hours on November 15 when he was intercepted by the robbers at the Bhandari Bridge extension. Though Bhola entered into a scuffle with the robbers to save the ornaments, they hit on his head with axes, following which he fell down. The robbers snatched the bag and fled the spot.
