Daring dacoity at Zaida

ANOTHER daring dacoity is reported, this time from village Zaida, the home of Khan Bahadur Abdul Ghafur Khan, District and Session Judge, Mianwali.

ANOTHER daring dacoity is reported, this time from village Zaida, the home of Khan Bahadur Abdul Ghafur Khan, District and Session Judge, Mianwali. The victim, as is usual in such raids, was a Hindu named Amir Chand. It must be said to the credit of the local Mohomedans that they turned out and showed fight to the raiders, killing one of them. The rest of the raiders, however, escaped taking away the body of their companion, and the booty taken from Amir Chand's shop. No injury was caused to Amir Chand or his family, but the raiders, while making good their escape, shot a chaukidar dead.

Guru Gobind Singh

WITHIN the present calendar year, the disciples and admirers of the tenth and last Guru of the Sikh faith, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib have twice had the good fortune to celebrate the day sacred to his birth. The first was on the 3rd of January and the second is to-day the 23rd of December. In the Punjab, which is under an undying debt to him, it is hardly necessary to recall the incidents of the thrilling life-history of the Guru who founded the Khalsa Panth and turned peace-loving disciples of the faith into martial heroes and warriors, whose heroism and valour is appreciated through the world. How as tender boy of 7 or 8 Gobind called upon his venerable father Guru Tegh Bahadurji to sacrifice himself for the Dharma, which the father readily responded to, how when the time came Guru Gobind Singh instituted the baptism of the sword, and how his own brave sons gave their lives in a manner worthy of the spirit and teachings of him who crowned all his sacrifices by sacrificing himself-are matters engraved on the golden page of the history of this land.
