Posting pictures of their new buys, Tommy di shirt, navi bulat to snapshots of hanging out with friends, sharing a glass of sugarcane juice, to pictures of them sleeping with their dog, Punjabi singer-actors are willing to share just about everything on their Facebook, except for their ‘relationship status’! 

That space to-be-filled on Facebook page is always conveniently ignored, which leaves the fans wondering... ‘Yaar, is Diljit Dosanjh married? Is Jassi Gill seeing someone? Is this Gippy’s wife...Not that food won’t go down your throat without this information, but as a fan, we bet it somehow becomes imperative to know this about your favourite celebrity! So, here is what they have to say. (Read between the lines if you can!)

Relationship proportional to popularity

Punjabi singer-actor Ammy Virk is the most sought-after celebrity these days. Relationship status? “Try putting your girlfriend’s picture on the FB page, and see the kind of messages you are flooded with.” Would you like someone writing ‘tota’ (hot chick) for your girlfriend on FB? Though Ammy is happily single, he wouldn’t mind declaring his relationship, as long if he is doing well in his career. “If my career is on the right track, why wouldn’t I be open about my relationship, and if at all I am surviving with the help of female fans, I wouldn’t declare it, simple.” 

On the other hand, singer Amber Vashisth doesn’t mind sharing his relationship status on FB. “My fans would like me for my songs, and not for my relationship status. Rest, I think many singers are not comfortable sharing it because they want to keep their family out of media glare.” Reportedly, long time back, fans had pelted stones at Diljit Dosanjh’s place for singing the song ‘lak 28 kudi da, 47 weight kudi da’. They got his address from his FB account.

If there are singer-actors who keep their status a mystery, singer–actor-director Gippy Grewal has always been open about it. “Ki farak painda! Do you think Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar have any less fans? Women still want to marry SRK. Hiding relationship does no good; in fact, you make your partner feel unimportant if you do so.”

Otherwise..sab chalta hai 

While they are not comfortable revealing their relationship status, Punjabi celebrities go in posting just about everything on their FB pages! ‘This is my niece, enjoying cool weather in Shimla, Looking handsome in new shirt?, Big hug to maata, She is my naani, I love you papa... their FB pages beam with such information. A question posed by a fan to a famous Punjabi actor, “Tusi single ho,’ was replied back with a smiley icon saying, “Tusi guess karlo g aape.’

A private affair 

Punjabi singer A Kay, who had a steady relationship for five years, can talk about his relationship for a newspaper, “but not on FB. Social media is a professional place; I wouldn’t want to use it to talk about my personal life.” 

On the other hand, he can put his pictures with his wife.
