Bathinda: The district has witnessed a rise in rape cases in 2019. According to the data, as many as 92 rape cases were registered in the district last year. In 2018, the figure was 62. Besides, 46 cases of molestation were registered in the district in 2019. A senior police officer said stringent laws were in place to check crime and atrocities against women. TNS
Just Dial recruits 14 MBA students
Bathinda: Fourteen students of Baba Farid College of Management and Technology (BFCMT) got recruited in a reputed firm during a campus recruitment drive recently. A leading firm Just Dial has hired 14 students from the institute. Eleven students got placed with a package of Rs 2.59 lakh per annum, while three students offered a salary package of Rs 2.73 lakh per annum. Jaya Ashish Sethi, Principal, BFCMT, congratulated the successful students and appreciated the teachers of BFCMT for sharpen students skills. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman, BFGI, said efforts were being made to ensure 100 per cent placement of students of every course. TNS
90 cartons of goods seized
Muktsar: Officials of the Excise and Taxation department on Monday seized 90 cartons of goods alleging tax evasion in Malout town. They said the goods were being transported in some buses coming from Delhi. The owners of the goods failed to produce original invoices, said Excise and Taxation Officer Ved Parkash. TNS
Farmers protest Centre’s policies
Muktsar: A large number of farmers on Monday staged protests at different places in the district against the Central Government for the proposed trade deal with US President Donald Trump. The farmers said that the deal would affect them directly. The protests were lodged at Muktsar, Doda, Kotbhai, Gidderbaha and Bariwala. TNS
