Following an intelligence based operation, the Amritsar Rural police have busted a major drug syndicate being operated from Dubai.
The police have arrested a total of five drug peddlers in the last five days, leading to the seizure of 4.4 kg heroin besides three vehicles, including two cars and a tractor, a pistol and 3.8 lakh cash.
Satinder Singh, SSP Amritsar Rural police, said during the investigation, the police also stumbled upon a major hawala racket. We have identified several financial transactions at different locations through the racket, he added.
“We have identified several members of the hawala racket and they would be soon arrested,” he said.
The drug peddlers have been identified as Sarwan Singh of Ladhewal Havelian, Sukhdev Singh of Baghrian village, Vishal Singh of Attari village, Harmeet Singh of Narli village and Hari Singh of Sur Singh village. Singh said they were in touch with Bantu of Mehta who is currently in Dubai and has been running the drug cartel.
“As per initial probe, they had smuggled several heroin consignments from Pakistan recently and supplied it to different parts of Punjab,” he said. More arrests are likely to be made after further probe, he added.
