Newborn found abandoned at railway station

A newborn was found abandoned at the railway station platform here on Sunday. The Railway police shifted him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. The police said they made repeated announcements about the child but no one came to take his custody. Later, we took him to the Civil Hospital. However, authorities at the Civil Hospital referred him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for better care, the police said.

Dr Rakesh Sharma, professor surgery and spokesperson for Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, said, “The child is being taken care of by the department of pediatrics.” He said the child was critical as he had remained out in the extreme cold. “A team of specialists is looking after the child and his condition is under control,” he said adding that officials of the Child Protection Department had been informed about the child. The administration has asked city residents to help them identify newborn’s parents.
