The schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will have one compulsory period on physical education for Classes I to VIII.
Under the programme, the schools will have to focus on having outdoor activities for students. The institutions will have to reserve one period of physical activity for the classes as per as their time-table. The programme has already been implemented for IX –XII classes.
CBSE nodal officer Anita Bhalla said, “Under this programme, every student will have to choose games of their choice besides yoga. The students are also taught theory as part of the health and physical education (HPE) programme.”
The CBSE will also upload revised methodology and strategy for effective implementation of the programme from the next session. The aim of the programme is to promote sports and physical health among students.
