The Majha House will host the first ever Children’s Book Festival on November 2 and 3 here. Preeti Gill, founder of Majha House said, “We keep on hearing parents complaining all the time about the growing distance between children and books. They lament that children are losing the habit of reading. So, we thought that our team should do something to re-forge a bond between books and children. That is how we came up with the idea of designing and organising a festival especially for the young.”

Spread over two days, the festival will see Majha House transforming into a wonderful and magical space for children, with author sessions, writing workshops, storytelling and tons of fun activities. The roster of participating authors includes names like Bulbul Sharma, Paro Anand, Venita Coelho, Vaishali Shroff and performers like Fouzia Dastango and the wonderful Talking Turtles. Renowned theatre artiste, Sanjana Kapoor, will also be there to conduct a theatre workshop. The main attractions of the festival would be the direct and close interaction between the children and the authors. Children of Amritsar can look forward to fascinating and magical tales of adventure, romance and can also be a part of storytelling sessions and writing workshops.

Nazi Puri, Amritsar’s Book Fairy, who has in her own way been encouraging children to read by distributing books free of cost, added, “We have approached schools to motivate their wards to participate and the response has been overwhelming. Students are really looking forward to be a part of this festival.” Dr Gurpartap Khairah, associate professor in English at Hindu College, who will be a part of the festival organisation team, remarked, “Our team is uniquely suited to curate this festival since we are all related to books and literature. Preeti Gill is an editor and literary agent; Nazi Puri is a book fairy; and I teach literature.”
