Amritsar, November 20

In the wake of recent crime incidents in the city, residents feel that the police must ensure their security on a regular basis. They said the police must act before the incident not after it.

“There is a sense of insecurity in residents. The police must ensure that CCTV cameras are in place. Patrolling must be increased,” said Indu Arora, a former educationist.

Lambasting the authorities for taking the warning of the Army Chief “lightly”, Naresh Johar, a senior citizen, said, “The recent incident in the city is a big lapse on the part of security forces and intelligence agencies. It seems that the warning of the Army Chief has been ignored. If there was high alert in the city, there should have been better security arrangements. The police must ensure that adequate security in far-flung areas as well.”

“People need to stay more self-conscious. Of course, it is a big lapse on the part of the police and other security agencies, said Swaraj Grover, social activist.
