Upset over repeated complaints regarding illegal buildings, Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu has issued strict warning to Municipal Town Planning officials to be ready face action for “malpractices”. A special meeting was conducted with the MTP officials at the MC head office in Ranjit Avenue.

The Mayor asked the officials concerned that he had never asked them to be lenient towards any violator so the action should be visible to the public. He asked the Assistant Town Planners (ATPs) to submit weekly report on actions taken against the illegal building owners every Wednesday.

“I have asked the officials concerned to take action against illegal buildings and increase the revenue of the MC. They have to compound the illegal buildings and charge for the change of land use. The ATPs will be responsible for their respective areas. In case of any negligence on the part of officials, they have to face departmental action,” the Mayor said.

Following it, Assistant Town Planner (central zone) Parminder Singh visited six “illegal” buildings in Sheran Wala Gate, Bazaar Kesrian and Amrit Takies. “We have demolished walls and pillars of the under construction sites. Construction of commercial buildings in residential areas has been stopped. The drive will continue,” said ATP Parminder Singh.
