The Sadar police have booked a youth for allegedly raping a married woman after kidnapping her. The complainant alleged that the accused kept her in illegal detention in a flat in Chandigarh and raped her several times.

The accused, identified as Lovepreet Singh, is said to be son of an ASI-rank official. Though the police have registered a case in this connection, the accused is yet to be arrested.

The victim stated to the police that the accused was her neighbour. She said he used to come to her residence to play with her child. Around two months ago, he abducted her and took to a flat in Chandigarh where he raped her several times, she complained. According to her, she tried to escape, but could not as she was confined in the flat.

According to her, she somehow managed to escape and reached Amritsar on Saturday. She narrated the entire incident to her family following which a complaint was lodged with the police.

Prem Pal, SHO, Sadar police station, said that after the complainant’s medical examination, the police registered a case under Sections 376 and 366 of the IPC against Lovepreet Singh while further investigation was under way. They said raids were on to nab the accused who was absconding. “Though her family members alleged that he had gone out of the country, we have information that he hasn’t left.
