Mayor Karamjeet Singh Rintu on Monday launched a project to instal LED street lights under the Smart City mission at Ranjit Avenue A and B block wards.

Informing about the project, Rintu said replacement of street lights in all wards throughout the city would require six-months time and Rs34 crore. “As many as 66,000 LED lights will be installed throughout the city under the project and the responsibility of maintenance of these lights will be of the company that has been assigned the project for the next five years.”

In first phase of the project, LED bulbs in Ranjit Avenue Block A and B will be installed. Rintu said cleanliness of the city was everyone’s responsibility, especially when celebrations of the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev were under way. “Several nagar kirtans are passing through the city. So, it becomes imperative to take care of the cleanliness of the city. The Municipal Corporation is engaged with full force to keep the city clean and maintain the highest order of cleanliness.”
