AMRITSAR: A Delhi resident was shot at by two unidentified robbers on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

A Delhi resident was shot at by two unidentified robbers on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The victim, Raman Chhabra, was waiting for a bus at the Beas bus stand when the incident took place.

Chhabra stated to the police that he had come to pay obeisance at a religious dera at Beas and after performing seva. He was waiting for a bus for Delhi at the Beas bus stand when two motorcycle-borne youths turned up at around 1.40 am. They had covered their faces. They asked him to hand over his belongings and whatever cash he had.

Sensing danger, he ran towards the main bazaar. The accused chased him and snatched his purse containing Rs 200 in cash besides other belongings. During this, the accused fired at him which hit his left shoulder. He raised the alarm following which they fled away on their bike.

People immediately rushed him to Radh Swami Charitable Hospital at Beas where he is under treatment.

The police have registered a case under Sections 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC and Section 25, 54, 59 of the Arms Act against unknown robbers.

Mohit Sharma, SHO, Beas police station, said an investigation was under progress. The accused haven’t been identified. He said the police are scrutinising the CCTV cameras in the area to find clues. — TNS
