Four members of a family have gone missing under mysterious circumstances in Teda Khurd village, falling under the Jhander police station. Identified as Davinder Kaur (50) wife of Harvant Singh, her two sons Onkar Singh (25) and Loveroop Singh (22) and daughter Sharanjit Kaur (28), they have been missing since Sunday. Onkar Singh is an advocate.

Though Harvant Singh lodged a police complaint on Monday, the police allegedly failed to take swift action. Interestingly, a day after that, Harvant Singh also went missing.

The incident has left residents of the village in panic. Villagers, along with members of in-laws of Harvant Singh, staged a protest outside the Jhander police station. Harcharan Singh, brother-in-law of Harvant Singh, said the latter decamped with Rs 1.40 lakh from the house and that raised a suspicion. He said his family was not in talking terms with Harvant for the past two years. He feared that someone might have killed the missing members of the family.

Following the demonstration outside the police station, Ajnala Deputy Superintendent of Police Harpreet Singh reached the spot. He said a special investigation team had been formed to investigate the matter and trace the missing persons. He said the police had also taken one person into custody for interrogation.

According to the DSP, though it appears to be a case of family dispute, “we have registered a case under Section 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent of wrongful confinement) of the IPC against Harvant and his relative Kuldeep Singh. Further investigation would make the things clear and action would be taken accordingly, he added.
