The incidents of atrocities on Dalits in Punjab have seen a steep rise after the Capt Amarinder Singh-led Congress government came to power, alleged BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh during a meeting with the SC leaders of the party at his office here on Tuesday.

He said not allowing cremation of a Dalit in Janer village in Moga district was highly unfortunate. He alleged that the atrocities on Dalits have risen due to the ‘anti-Dalit attitude’ of the government.

Addressing the Dalit workers of the BJP, who had assembled under the leadership of senior leader Lovinder Bunty, Chugh said during the SAD-BJP regime Dalits were getting 200 units of free power, benefits of Atta-Dal scheme, scholarships on a priority basis but after the Congress government came at the helm of affairs, their welfare has been ignored.

“The government is also discriminating against the SCs by not posting officers of the community at important posts. This is an attempt to weaken the dalits and exploit them,” he alleged. “Not only this, the Chief Minister, ignored the claims of elected Dalit MLAs in his cabinet expansion,” he alleged.
