Insurance firm told to pay Rs10,638 to complainant

AMRITSAR: The district consumer disputes redressal forum has directed an insurance company to pay Rs 2,638 to the complainant along with Rs 5,000 as compensation and Rs 3,000 as litigation expenses withheld by it.

The district consumer disputes redressal forum has directed an insurance company to pay Rs 2,638 to the complainant along with Rs 5,000 as compensation and Rs 3,000 as litigation expenses withheld by it.

Vishnu Parkash Sharma, a resident of Fategarh Churian Road area, had filed a complaint against Heritage Health TPA Insurance Company stating that he had obtained a insurance from the opposite party under which he was provided health insurance of Rs 4 lakh.

He said his wife was admitted in a hospital and they spent an amount of Rs 29,411. He complained that the company paid onlyRs 17,254 without giving any reason.

The complainant added that after a long follow-up the company again reimbursed a sum of Rs 9,519 but still denied the amount of Rs 2,638. He stated when he sent an e-mail to the company for providing detail of items not considered for settlement of reimbursement the opposite party did not pay any heed. The forum observed that the insurance company did not contest the claim of the complainant. It was, thus, ordered to reimburse Rs 2,638 along with compensation of Rs 5,000 and litigation expenses of Rs 3,000 to the complainant.
