BJP leader Sandhya Sikka, Leader of Opposition in the MC House, has alleged that the suspension of assistant town planners (ATPs) at the General House meeting was a drama as the civic body had failed to stop illegal constructions. She said that in the name of action against municipal town planning (MTP) officials, the MC House had passed a resolution to suspend six ATPs, but no one has been suspended till the date. There is no check of the MC on the construction of illegal buildings.

She stated that the MC had been facing financial crisis due to its wrong policies. “If the MC collects penalty from the violators, it will be beneficiary for the financial health of the body. Instead of recovery of penalty, some people are taking bribe to allow violations,” said Sikka.

“Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu should make it clear how the illegal constructions are going on? He should expose the collusion of the officials concerned,” she added.
