Medical Education and Research Minister Anil Joshi laid the foundation stone of Rs 104 crore project at the Government Medical College (GMC) here today.

The project includes four hostels with a capacity to accommodate 700 students, a laboratory complex, classrooms, sports complex, administrative complex, besides a multi-level parking.

Speaking on the occasion, Joshi said the college had recently got 50 more seats for the MBBS course. He said none of the private hospitals in the state had infrastructure better than the Government Medical College.

“Even after a charging nominal fee from patients and giving them most medicines free of cost, if patients still go to private hospitals, it indicates that employees are not doing their duties diligently,” he added.

He said reports of exploitation of patients by employees had been highlighted frequently. He warned doctors against indulging in malpractices and asked senior authorities of the college and officials of the Medical Education Department to look into the matter.

Secretary medical education and research Hussan Lal, Government Medical College Principal, Dr BS Bal, medical superintendent, Dr Ram Sarup Sharma, and other officials were also present on the occasion.
