AMRITSAR: A 23-year-old newly married woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in Tahliwala Chowk here on Saturday.

A 23-year-old newly married woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in Tahliwala Chowk here on Saturday.

She was alone at home when she took the extreme step. Her husband had gone outside for work. The police have taken the body into custody.

The deceased has been identified as Rajni, wife of Jai Parkash, who runs a burger stall here. He originally hails from Uttar Pradesh. Deceased’s husband told the police that he was married to Rajni only six months ago. He said her health was not well as she used to get fits.

Jai Parkash said he was at his stall when his neighboures informed him that Rajni had committed suicide and thereafter, he immediately reached his house and found her hanging with a ceiling fan.

Satnam Singh, investigating officer, said they were waiting for the parents of the deceased to arrive. He said further action would be taken after that.
