Employees of local Powercom circle organised a two-hour pen and tool down strike here on Wednesday. They were protesting against the police for not taking action against persons responsible for attacking team members of Powercom circle, who went to check power theft cases. The call was given by the Joint Action Committee, a consortium of seven employee organisations.

Gurpreet Singh Mannan and Gurpreet Singh Gandiwind, leaders of the action committee, said the employees also organised rallies at Naushehra Pannuan, Chohla Sahib, Sarhali, Harike, Patti, Khadoor Sahib, Valtoha, Khemkaran and other subdivisions against the attack. The leaders said the police had registered cases against 25 miscreants. The department was suffering 87 per cent transmission and distribution losses here due to power theft in the area. In the last two years, the police have booked more than 200 persons for stealing power, besides criminal cases have been registered against 25 persons. Till date the police have not arrested any persons for stealing power. The leaders have demanded action against the accused nominated in the cases.
