Pune woman killed in mishap

AMRITSAR: A tourist, Seema (35), a resident of Pune (Maharashtra), lost her life when an autorickshaw she was travelling in rammed into a stationary truck on the Amritsar-Attari road, near Lahori Mal village, here late on Saturday evening.

A tourist, Seema (35), a resident of Pune (Maharashtra), lost her life when an autorickshaw she was travelling in rammed into a stationary truck on the Amritsar-Attari road, near Lahori Mal village, here late on Saturday evening. Her co-passengers were left injured.

They were returning to Amritsar after watching the Beating Retreat ceremony at Attari-Wagah joint check post when the incident took place. The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital where she succumbed.

Darshna Patil, another tourist who too hails from Pune, stated to the police that they had hired an autorickshaw at around 7.30 pm. The truck driver hadn’t switched on the parking light or indicators. Besides, reflectors were also missing. The driver could not locate the same due to high beam lights of the vehicles coming from the opposite side. Many of the occupants sustained serious injuries.

The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 279, 337, 338 and 247 of the IPC against the unknown driver of the truck, who did not turn up after the mishap. The police authorities said that they were trying to identify the truck driver, who would be arrested thereafter.

Another mishap

In another incident, Sewa Singh, an auto-rickshaw driver, died when a school van collided with his vehicle near Ramuwal village here on Saturday evening.

Sucha Singh, a resident of Basarke Gillan village, said his nephew was going to Ramuwal village when the “rashly-driven” school van hit it. Sewa Singh was critically injured. He said as the people gathered near the spot, the van driver fled the scene. Sewa Singh died while being taken to a hospital. The police have registered a case in this connection.
