The Punjabi cinema is undergoing a refreshing change towards some content-driven films and new lead pairs being introduced for the audience. One such offering is Aate Di Chidi, upcoming Neeru Bajwa starrer that launches singer Amrit Mann as her on-screen leading man. As the title suggests, the film is about the long-lost memories of childhood, Punjabi traditions and everyday excitement that most of us remember from our childhood.

“It’s a sweet love comedy, a simple film that will definitely entertain with a message,” said Amrit Mann, who was in the city along with Neeru Bajwa for promotion. The movie has been in the news right since its announcement because of the fresh pairing of Neeru Bajwa opposite Amrit Maan.

“Punjab’s issues will be gently showcased in a humorous way. It promises to be a giggle-fest for the audiences. Like its story and backdrop, I am also born and brought up in Canada. Since childhood, I was unaware of so many things integral to our culture, which I got to know during the shoot. This movie has definitely made me value our culture more. I have enjoyed each and every step of its making,” she said. The movie is helmed by Harry Bhatti. Raju Verma has written the story. The movie has been shot in Punjab and Canada.

On Punjabi films taking a turn towards meaningful cinema, both Mann and Bajwa said that it’s a welcome change. “Stories that are relatable and also highlight the forgotten traditions of Punjab are doing good, cinematically as well as commercially. The audience wants good cinema,” said Mann.

Bajwa also commented on the ongoing #MeToo movement that has blown up the cover on rampant sexual harassment at workplace. “I was elated when I read all those stories being shared and how women are now coming up to take a stand against this kind of abuse of power. I believe that it is a problem in every work industry and not just film industry. I hope that all this movement brings the required change as it is about time that sexual harassment at workplace stops,” she added.
