Spreading the message of road safety, the unique project, titled ‘1 Crore Steps for Safer Roads’, of the Drive Smart Drive Safe, an NGO, visited the Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post here on Sunday. They educated people while stressing the need to bring urgency to arrest road deaths.

The Border Security Force (BSF) supported the campaign. Ramashankar Pandey, president, central working committee of the NGO, said the number of lives lost in road accidents in India was alarming. With one death every four minutes and an accident every minute, the situation is very critical and cannot be left unattended for long, so our team is appealing to people to join this national movement, he said.

The movement started on July 28 from Kanyakumari and it has got a tremendous support from people from across the country. The campaign is supported by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, FICCI, CII and several NGOs.

The project aims to demonstrate how our ‘daily walk donation’ can arrest the alarming road deaths.
