Students promote green Diwali

AMRITSAR: Educational institutes in the city celebrated Diwali with their students on Tuesday. Class IX students of Shri Ram Ashram Public School presented a role play on Diwali highlighting the importance of this festival.

Educational institutes in the city celebrated Diwali with their students on Tuesday.

Class IX students of Shri Ram Ashram Public School presented a role play on Diwali highlighting the importance of this festival. They stressed upon flaunting a message of celebrating peaceful and green Diwali. Students of primary classes celebrated Diwali by dancing and exchanging sweets. Students of Class III and IV decorated classrooms with diyas and candles.

School Principal Vinodita Sankhyan emphasised on the responsibilities and values that students must possess and told them that they must be sensitive towards their environment also. Students of DAV Public School paid tributes to the people, who lost their lives in the recent train tragedy. They recited holy hymns and presented a short role play depicting the true meaning of Diwali celebrations. They gave the message of celebrating ‘green Diwali’ by saying ‘no to crackers’ and devoting the day to bringing smiles on the faces of the needy. School Principal Neera Sharma blessed the students and addressed them to celebrate crackerless Diwali.

Similarly, students of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, GT Road, Amritsar, organised a rally to highlight the importance of celebrating pollution-free Diwali. The idea of an awareness campaign emerged as an offshoot of the school’s eco club. By conducting the rally, they expect to bring awareness among people about ill effects of bursting crackers. Students took a pledge of greeting each other by giving plants as gifts and helping the poor and needy children. Principal-director Dr Dharam Veer Singh appreciated the efforts of teachers and students and also encouraged the young minds for celebrating eco-friendly and green Diwali.
